Component Strategy

The overall strategy of the Biomass Component in view of Biomass Energy promotion in Nepal will be that activities through NGOs, Forest User Groups and other relevant organizations throughout the country, based on the best practices guidelines and support mechanisms. Thus, the ESAP-II biomass component will not be driven by the target numbers of stoves or technologies to be installed. However, it is envisioned that by end of phase II that 500,000 additional stoves will be installed based on the growing trend of demand.

The main strategy will be to focus on overall sector issues and enhancement of the procedures and framework for support to the biomass energy sector rather than on detailed project development and preparation, as the sector environment is expected to change dynamically over the next five-year period.

The core strategies will address identified barriers. They are:

  • Strategies for management and coordination improvement.
  • Strategies for development of versatile stove models for mid hill and to improvise the current promoted models as well as development of high hill and Terai models.
